Richard A. Steinbrook, MD, is Director of Clinical Research, Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Steinbrook is Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Boston. His professional activities focus on the practice of anesthesia, providing direct patient care, as well as teaching and supervising residents and medical students. Dr. Steinbrook's area of expertise lies in epidural anesthesia and gastrointestinal function, a topic he has written and lectured on extensively.

Dr. Steinbrook completed his undergraduate study at University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Natural Science. He received his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and served as resident anesthesiologist at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. He completed a Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center and a Respiratory Care fellowship at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.

Dr. Steinbrook is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society. He serves as Ad Hoc Reviewer for a number of academic journals, including Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and Anesthesiology. In 2002, Dr. Steinbrook won the Teaching Publication Award, Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has served as Principal Investigator and Co-investigator for several trials.
