TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for colon/rectal surgeons, general surgeons, anesthesiologists, health-system pharmacists, medical/surgical nurses, and other health care professionals who manage postoperative ileus (POI).
STATEMENT OF NEED
Postoperative ileus (POI) is a common but underrecognized problem in patients undergoing bowel resection and other major abdominal surgeries. POI can become prolonged and lead to longer hospital stays, patient discomfort and a number of serious postsurgical complications. Prevention and treatment of POI requires a multimodal management approach due to the diverse underlying physiological factors that contribute to this disorder. The surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, and pharmacists, are largely responsible for carrying out this multimodal strategy and thus have a critical need for current education on the management of POI.

The France Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Nurses
Nurses who are certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) may utilize activities that are certified by ACCME-accredited providers toward their requirement for certification renewal by the ANCC. A certificate of attendance will be provided by The France Foundation, an ACCME- accredited provider.
